Former MLB outfielder Brett Phillips signs with Yankees as pitcher

Former MLB outfielder Brett Phillips is joining the Yankees as a pitcher. According to The Post’s Jon Heyman:.

The position player-turned-pitcher signed with the Bronx Bombers on Tuesday after being recorded at 97 mph on a radar gun during a semi-pro game on Monday.

Phillips will join the Yankees farm system and look to return to the major leagues at a new position. Reporter Francis Romero.

The 30-year-old spent seven years in the major leagues as an outfielder with the Brewers, Royals, Rays, Orioles and Angels.

He hit the game-winning hit for the Rays in Game 4 of the 2020 World Series against the Dodgers, arguably the biggest highlight of his major league career.

Phillips signed with the White Sox last offseason but was released in May.
