Witnesses heard a “loud explosion” in the Lebanese capital as the Israel Defense Forces launched a “targeted strike” on Fouad Shukr, the man believed to be responsible for Saturday’s Golan Heights attack.

“The IDF carried out a targeted strike in Beirut against a commander responsible for the murder of children in Majdal Shams and numerous Israeli civilians,” it said in a statement.

according to ReutersA security source told the media it remained unclear whether Shukr, the terror group’s second-in-command, survived.

The attack took place in Beirut’s Dahieh district, a known Hezbollah stronghold, and came a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed a “severe response” to any attacks on the Golan Heights.

“These children are our children. The state of Israel will not and cannot tolerate this,” he said. “We will respond tough.”

At least one person was killed and several others wounded in an attack south of Beirut on Tuesday that was attributed to three missiles fired from an aerial drone. NNAThe Lebanese state news agency reported.

In addition, flights to Beirut airport have been canceled since Monday due to concerns about retaliatory Israeli attacks.

Since the horrific attack at the Israeli soccer stadium, the IDF has carried out several airstrikes in southern Lebanon, including a drone strike on Monday that reportedly killed two Hezbollah operatives.

Meanwhile, the terrorist group continues to deny any involvement in the weekend attacks.
