Observations from Jets training camp on Tuesday:
Target Rich
Working with starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers and backup Tyrod Taylor, Malik Taylor has been the receiver that gets the most attention in many practices.
The former Packers’ knowledge of the playbook is evident as he takes advantage of the injury absences of first-teamers Mike Williams and Xavier Gipson.
“He’s starting to win those one-on-one situations and put himself in positions to split opponents,” coach Robert Saleh said. “I’m very happy with where he’s at right now.”
recover
Center Joe Tippmann took at least two off-target snaps, continuing a week-long trend of inconsistency.
At one point late in practice, offensive line coach Keith Carter instructed backup center Wes Schweitzer to rush down the sideline for a quick chat, raising hopes that Schweitzer might soon be in the spotlight.
It caught my eye
Jets owner Woody Johnson was on the sidelines for practice, making his first appearance of training camp, and spent most of the time standing and talking with general manager Joe Douglas.
The Rogers Report
Rodgers had a down day offensively, completing 10 of 19 passes in the team period and 1 of 3 passes in 7-on-7.
He didn’t score a touchdown in any of the five 11-on-11 series he coached, and all two ball-moving drills and a 52-second drill ended in turnovers on downs.
The rushing drill ended with four consecutive incomplete attempts, including a spike.
He also threw the ball to Breece Hall, but the ball was mishandled and recovered by defensive end Michael Clemons.
Injury Report
Undrafted rookie Tyler Harrell left practice early with an unspecified injury.
DL Takkarist McKinley did not practice, and RT Morgan Moses is expected to join the team “in the next few days,” Saleh said.
