Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a death warrant for the kidnapping and murder of a brother and sister that occurred 30 years ago.
Loran Kensley Cole, 57, was convicted and sentenced to death for the 1994 murder of 18-year-old Florida State University student John Edwards.

Cole was also convicted of kidnapping and raping the Florida State University student’s 21-year-old sister in Ocala National Forest that same night.

“Enclosed is the death warrant I signed for the execution of Loran Kensley Cole, along with a certified copy of the sentence and punishment,” DeSantis wrote.

“I have been informed that the execution date and time has been set for Thursday, August 29th at 6 p.m.,” the governor added.

The execution will be the first in Florida since Governor DeSantis signed a death warrant in August for Michael Duane Zack, 54, for the 1996 murders of two women.
