ICE detains 15 undocumented immigrants with convictions for murder, rape, and sexual offenses

Immigration Authorities Make Significant Arrests Over Weekend

Over the weekend, federal immigration officials apprehended more than a dozen undocumented immigrants with criminal records. Many of these individuals had been convicted of serious offenses, including murder, rape, and drug trafficking.

This operation coincides with the ongoing efforts by the Trump administration to intensify its deportation strategies. They’ve been actively lifting protections for numerous undocumented immigrants and significantly increasing detention capabilities.

“While Americans were enjoying summer activities like the Great American State Fair, ICE was busy apprehending individuals convicted of serious crimes including murder, child molestation, and drug trafficking,” said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Biss of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). “Under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Marin, we remain committed to safeguarding Americans by removing criminal undocumented immigrants from our communities.”

Details on Arrested Individuals

Among those arrested were:

  • Martin Gutierrez Gaona, a Mexican national, who had convictions in Los Angeles for fleeing a security guard, possession of a controlled substance, forgery, and causing serious bodily injury.
  • Carlos Augusto Meléndez Reales, a Colombian national, previously convicted in Tampa for conspiracy related to distributing cocaine on a vessel.
  • Carl Winston Ellis, a Jamaican national, who faced charges in Las Vegas for possession with intent to distribute and unlawful re-entry into the U.S.
  • Jose Daniel Lara Zavala, a Mexican national convicted of DUI and murder in North Carolina.
  • Odelio Lopez-Lopez, a Mexican national with convictions in California for robbery, child abuse, and aggravated domestic violence.
  • Nathanio Jimenez Garcia, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, previously convicted of aggravated rape and fraud.

Additionally, nine others apprehended had various convictions, including child sex crimes and weapon-related assaults.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin recently announced that the agency has recorded 442,000 formal deportations and removals, indicating that the total for this year might surpass 2025’s figures when there were over 605,000 deportations reported.

In a video shared on X, Marin claimed they might exceed the 2025 deportation total within the next six weeks. Beyond targeting violent offenders, authorities are also focusing on individuals involved in fraud or those who have illegitimately acquired U.S. citizenship.
