A cold-hearted Florida father has been charged with abandoning his 10-year-old daughter on the side of a busy road in the middle of the night, authorities said.
Hector Serrano, 30, is facing child abuse charges after he allegedly left the frightened girl on the side of U.S. Highway 192 in Kissimmee around 12:30 a.m. Monday. WESH-TV News reported..
Serrano allegedly got into an argument with the girl’s grandparents before forcing her out of the vehicle.
“Something bad could have happened to this girl,” Osceola County Sheriff Marco Lopez told the outlet. “Anyone could have kidnapped her. She could have been a victim of human trafficking.”
“This area is 21 minutes from grandma’s house and there are wolves and predators out there,” Lopez added. “To put a 10-year-old girl out in that sort of place, morning, afternoon or any time of the day, is just reckless and irresponsible.”
A witness told police that Serrano threw the girl’s toys and clothes at her on the side of the road before speeding off, leaving her in the dark.
“Witnesses said she was scared, upset, crying and confused,” Lopez said. “If someone had kicked me out of my house at that age, I would have felt the same way.”
Police tracked down and arrested Serrano shortly after the incident.
He is now facing child abuse charges following involvement from the Department of Children and Families.
