“We need to have operational control over the border. Both myself and Kamala Harris understand that,” Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Wednesday, saying the Senate border bill would have done just that. He also said Harris has had “great success in the Northern Triangle… The work she’s done in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala is now paying off.”
“We understand that we have to have operational control over the border. I understand that. Kamala Harris understands that and this bill was about doing that. And our goal was to pass this bill and get started on comprehensive immigration reform,” Kelly said.
After criticizing Republicans who oppose the bill, Kelly said, “I’m excited to have Kamala Harris in the White House so we can get back to hard work. She’s had great success in the Northern Triangle. I just met with the president and the president-elect in Mexico. We talked about that. The work she’s done in Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala is now paying off. Combined with the executive orders that Kamala Harris has put in place, [and] “President Biden is in a much more stable situation now. But what we need is strong bipartisan legislation, and Donald Trump has made it very clear that he doesn’t want that.”
