Regan Smith, Lily King, Gretchen Walsh and Tori Huske won the women’s 4×100 medley in the final Olympic swimming event on Sunday, also setting a world record in the event.
The group swam the race in 3 minutes 49.63 seconds, beating the previous record, also held by the United States, by 0.77 seconds.
The Americans were victorious all the way through, thanks to a phenomenal backstroke from Smith at the start, which came in just 0.15 seconds shy of the world record time.

It was Huske’s third Olympic gold medal of the Games, and she also won the 100 butterfly (Walsh won silver). She and Walsh were also part of the mixed 4×100 medley team that set a world record on Saturday. Smith won gold as a reserve.
This was Lily King’s first gold medal since the Rio Games.

U.S. women’s 4x100m medley relay team wins gold medal, sets world record in final Olympic swimming event in Paris
It was the eighth gold medal for the United States, one more than Australia and the most medals won by any country in swimming. The United States’ total swimming medal total was 28, also an overwhelming record.
The United States has won either a gold or silver medal in this event at every Olympic Games, and this is its 11th victory.
