Ariz. Sen. Mark Kelly deletes tweet fueling speculation about his chances as veep for Harris

Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly caused confusion for the Democratic vice presidential nominee on Sunday when he posted on social media, then quickly deleted it, that his focus was on “serving the people of Arizona.”

The vice presidential candidate drew attention when he made statements about X, implying that he might drop out of the position as presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris’ running mate before it even expires.

“My background is a little different than most politicians,” the now-deleted post read. “I spent my life in the Navy and NASA where the mission always came first.”

“Now my mission is to serve the people of Arizona.”

Kelly is He posted another tweet It was more general and didn’t leave much room for speculation about his future.

“Whether it was my time in the Navy, NASA, as a US Senator or visiting our troops overseas, I learned that when our country calls to serve, we must always answer,” he tweeted, along with a photo of himself talking with a military member.

Kelly is one of several candidates considering running alongside current Vice President Harris on the Democratic ticket against former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance.

He was scheduled to be interviewed by Harris at her Washington, DC, home on Sunday, according to Reuters. report.

Other Democrats rumored to be potential running mates for Harris include Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.

Harris is expected to announce her running mate as early as Monday, according to Reuters.
