On CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, anchor Dana Bash grilled Sen. LaFonza Butler (D-Calif.) about Vice President Kamala Harris’ “frequent shifts in her stance” on key issues.
“During the 2020 primaries, the Vice President praised the movement to defund police, but now says she does not support defunding police. She called for decriminalizing crossing the border illegally, and now supports President Biden’s policies to crack down on the border. She once supported Medicare for All, which would eliminate private insurance, but her campaign says she no longer supports it. She reversed course on banning fracking. What do you think voters should think when she has reversed course on several issues over the past four years?” Bash said.
“I think voters should see her as someone who is capable of learning something new every day and taking the time and effort to listen to everyone’s concerns,” Butler said.
She added, “I think we should absolutely trust that she’s a leader who cares about people and puts people first, as she has done throughout her career.”
“So you’re not worried about him changing his attitude?” Bash said.
“I’m not worried about attitudes changing all the time,” Butler said.
