Intelligence officials in Washington, DC, believe a retaliatory attack by Iran on Israel is “imminent,” and President Biden and his national security team met in the Situation Room on Monday to discuss next steps.

The president is also reportedly due to meet with Jordan’s King Abdullah, following Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi’s visit to Iran in an effort to ease tensions and prevent further escalation.
“We want to end the escalation of tensions,” Ayman Safadi insisted.
The deaths of the Hamas leader and Hezbollah commander have been blamed on Israel’s Mossad agency, and major retaliatory attacks by Iranian proxies are expected.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed to take revenge on Israel for the assassination of its ally.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned colleagues that attacks on Israel by Iran and Hezbollah were imminent as early as Monday.
Gen. Michael Eric Kurilla, commander of U.S. Central Command, is due to arrive in Israel on Monday to coordinate plans for a possible attack.
“All parties need to reaffirm their determination to refrain from perpetuating the current destructive cycle of retaliatory violence, to reduce tensions and to work constructively towards de-escalation,” the G7 statement said.
On Sunday night, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin met with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who briefed Austin on “regional security developments and the IDF’s readiness to defend Israel from potential threats from Iran and its proxies.”
The situation could further worsen if The Israel Times Israel is reportedly considering launching a pre-emptive strike to deter Iran if it finds hard evidence that the country is planning to attack.
“We are doing everything we can to make sure this situation does not escalate,” White House Deputy National Security Adviser John Finer said Sunday.
