Hawley discloses whistleblower claims about Secret Service failures at Butler rally

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) appeared on “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Monday night and revealed new allegations about the attempted assassination of former President Trump last month.

Hawley told host Jesse Watters at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13 that he had spoken with a whistleblower who provided information about a lead field agent for the United States Secret Service (USSS).

During the rally, gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on Trump from a sloping roof, shooting him in the ear and killing one protester. Crooks, 20, wounded two more people before being shot and killed by a Secret Service agent.

The incident has prompted Republicans and Democrats alike to come under scrutiny of the Secret Service in recent weeks, with Hawley alleging on “Jesse Watters Primetime” that the lead agent in the field is inexperienced and known to be “incompetent.”

“The agent on the ground, the lead agent, was known to the Trump campaign to be inexperienced, incompetent and frankly unfit for the job,” Hawley said. “We’ve heard from the whistleblower that she did not follow normal security procedures that day.”

“She wasn’t checking people’s IDs. She wasn’t using Secret Service agents,” Hawley added. “Most of the agents there that day were not Secret Service agents, they were Department of Homeland Security agents.”

The Missouri senator also alleged that some Secret Service agents are unhappy with the agency’s response to the shooting.

“The reason we have whistleblowers in the Secret Service is because they don’t trust the actions of their leaders,” Hawley said. “They don’t trust the Secret Service to take action to root out corruption.”

“Frankly, they’re scared to death. [that] “It will happen again. We must not let it happen again. We must get the facts out,” the Republican lawmaker concluded.

Shortly after the interview, Hawley posted on X about a scathing letter he sent Monday to Secret Service Acting Director Ronald L. Rowe. In the letter, Hawley questioned why field leader agents were assigned to the rally and why certain procedures were not followed.

“I request that the lead agent in the field be immediately suspended from all Secret Service duties while these allegations are investigated,” Hawley wrote.
