Vice President Harris announced Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate on Tuesday, following a tumultuous process that began with President Biden dropping out of the presidential race just weeks ago.

The selection follows recent infighting within the party over who should be the running mate, with progressives arguing against putting Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro alongside Democratic nominee Harris over issues including her past positions on education vouchers and her stance on the Israel-Hamas war.
Progressives faced backlash from lawmakers who aligned with the Pennsylvania governor in opposing Shapiro’s nomination for the role, particularly Jewish lawmakers who said he misrepresented his position on Israel’s war with Hamas and was anti-Semitic.
“Josh’s positions on Israel are pretty much the same as everyone else’s, but he’s being measured by a different standard, so you have to ask yourself why,” Rep. Jared Moskowitz (R-Fla.) previously said.
