Vance says Harris ‘bent the knee to the Hamas caucus’ by choosing Walz over Shapiro

Republican Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio has accused Vice President Kamala Harris of caving to the radical left wing of the Democratic Party in choosing her running mate in November’s election.

“She has caved to the Hamas caucus of Democrats,” Vance said at a rally in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on Wednesday.

He is the latest Republican critic to accuse Harris of choosing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate against former President Trump and Vance because the Pennsylvania governor is Jewish.

Former President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana, have made similar claims.

“Whatever your opinion of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, he is clearly not of my party. He has criticized me and I have criticized him. It’s shameful that there is angry rallying from the far left saying, ‘We can’t elect Kamala Harris because she’s Jewish,'” Vance said.

“I want my children to grow up in a country where they can be anything they want, where they’re not attacked because of their ethnic background, and where it’s somehow accepted.”

“The issue isn’t just what people have said about Mr. Shapiro, it’s the refusal of Ms. Harris and the Harris administration and the Harris campaign to stand up to it. I think that’s really a scandal,” he said.

But Harris’ campaign has spoken out against these allegations. This was reported to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. “The assertion that Vice President Harris did not select Governor Shapiro based on his religion or views on Israel is completely absurd and offensive.”

Republicans reacted with a mixture of jubilation and relief to Harris’ decision to choose Walz over Shapiro, casting the Minnesota governor as a progressive radical for her COVID-19 response, support for gender reassignment treatment for minors and government aid for undocumented immigrants.

Harris, whose husband is Jewish, will be tasked with navigating growing divisions within the Democratic Party over Israel, with a growing number of progressives calling for the U.S. to distance itself from its close Middle East ally.

Shapiro was considered the front-runner to become governor of the key battleground state.

But Harris reportedly ultimately decided that Waltz was the better choice, based on his personality and approach to campaigning.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Harris campaign and Shapiro’s office for comment on Vance’s remarks.
