Records show lengths would-be Trump assassin went to prepare

Thomas Crooks, the 20-year-old man who plotted to assassinate Donald Trump at a rally last month, was a member of a local gun club and had been practicing his shooting skills just a day before he attempted to assassinate the former president, according to records from Sen. Chuck Grassley’s office.

Crooks became a member of the Clairton Sportsman’s Club on Aug. 10, 2023, according to records obtained by Fox News Digital.

Crooks visited the range at least 43 times, about half of which were in his first four months as a member, records show. He also visited the range on Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Crooks focused more on the rifle range than the pistol range, records show.

Crooks participated in shooting training sessions approximately three to six times per month in 2024. During one of those visits, on May 23, 2024, the shooting range was also being used for “police training” by the Department of Homeland Security.

Crooks’ last visit was on the afternoon of Friday, July 12, 2024, just one day before the assassination attempt that took place during a rally for former President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
