The U.S. women’s basketball team advances to the semifinals.
The U.S. team beat Nigeria 88-74 to advance to the semifinals on Sunday with their 59th straight win, and will play for a medal on Sunday. A win would guarantee them a medal, but a loss would mean they need one more win to take home the bronze.
This year’s team is captained by five-time Olympic gold medalist Diana Taurasi, who is playing in her sixth Olympic Games and was not in the starting lineup for the win over Nigeria. The all-WNBA team also features New York Liberty stars Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, as well as two Las Vegas Aces players, Jackie Young and Kelsey Plum.
Team USA faced Australia in the quarterfinals, who defeated Serbia 85-67 to book a spot in the semifinals.
