MSNBC commentator Lawrence O’Donnell criticized media outlets, including his own, for the way they covered former President Trump’s Thursday press conference at Mar-a-Lago.
“2016 has repeated itself again today.” O’Donnell said Thursday. Donald Trump gave an hour-long speech from his home, which was broadcast live by every cable news network, including this one, just as it did in 2016.
The host and political analyst, a frequent critic of President Trump and his allies, criticized major news networks for fact-checking the former president “far too late.”
“Every network has the ability to fact-check many of Trump’s lies with a live scroll on the side of their screen,” he suggested, criticizing those same networks for not providing full coverage of Vice President Harris’ remarks on Thursday.
Speaking at a news conference at his Palm Beach, Florida, home, Trump appeared to be irritated by Ms Harris’ surge in the polls following President Biden’s decision to drop out of the race and endorse Ms Harris. Trump’s lead over Ms Biden has been all but wiped out by Vice President Harris, who is also benefiting from enthusiasm from the Democratic base and huge fundraising.
MSNBC has a number of top hosts who routinely mock President Trump and his allies.
The former president has named the network’s parent company as part of his ongoing attacks on news organizations, at one point earlier this year threatening to investigate Comcast Universal for “treason” over the company’s reporting about him.
