Trump team slams ‘weird’ Harris-Walz attacks as ‘smokescreen’

Donald Trump’s campaign said the “bizarre” attacks from both Harris and Waltz were nothing more than a “smokescreen” and that voters care more about the economy than playground insults.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, launched a “bizarre” attack on Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) even before he was selected as the No. 2 Democrat. Since the GOP’s running mate was selected, even more members of the party have denounced him.

The harassment intensified, and during his first appearance with Senator Harris, Senator Walz criticized Senator Vance, referencing a meme that had circulated online alleging that Senator Vance had written about having sex with Soffer in his autobiography, “Hillbilly Elegy.”

“I can’t wait to debate him,” Walz said, “if he’s willing to get up off the couch and show up to debate.”

Trump has yet to issue a strong response to the “bizarre” attack, with a senior campaign official telling reporters at a meeting in West Palm Beach on Thursday that voters would be more concerned about inflation.

“Let’s think about why they’re doing weird things. They’re doing weird things because inflation is out of control,” a senior Trump administration official told The Washington Post. “When you go to the store and see prices going up, you don’t think, ‘Oh, some Democrat posted a meme saying something weird.’ You think, ‘That’s infuriating.'”

The official then went on to accuse Walz and Harris themselves of being “weird.”

“For example, given Governor Walz’s record, it is extremely odd that he would have feminine products in boys’ bathrooms at elementary schools,” the official said, noting the governor has supported having tampons in both girls’ and boys’ bathrooms.

“Their obsession with destroying a lot of cultural norms is really bizarre. It’s just a smokescreen. They’re saying they’re trying to do a ‘David Copperfield’ to get away from really terrible policies.”

“Did you see Kamala’s speech? That was weird. That was unpresidential,” the Trump administration official continued.

“When it comes to who the top candidate is, voters want to know they have a strong president. [who] “It’s not going to effect change. It can’t,” the official said. “And some of the memes? I mean, Kamala herself. The way she laughs is weird. It’s just weird. So I think it’s just a smokescreen.”
