Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) “blundered” when he claimed he carried a weapon “in wartime,” the Harris campaign argued Friday night after struggling to navigate four difficult days in which the theft controversy raged.
Waltz has repeatedly suggested he brought weapons to the war. video The Harris campaign shares this view, despite never having been in combat.
“Weapons of war delivered in war can only be delivered in war,” Walz said in a 2018 speech. video The video, which was shared by the Harris campaign on Tuesday, advocates for gun control.
Governor Tim WaltzI was in the Army for 25 years and I hunt. I’ve voted for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment, but we can do background checks. We can study the impact of gun violence. We can do war weapons. pic.twitter.com/3IVaXi2RP2

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Donald Trump’s running mate and a former Marine who served in a combat zone in public affairs during the Iraq War, has led Republicans in accusing Walz of making a number of false claims about his military service.
“Governor Walz would never disparage or undermine Americans’ service to this country. In fact, he thanks Senator Vance for putting his life on the line for our country. That’s the American way,” an anonymous Harris campaign spokesperson said in a statement Friday. NBC Report.
The anonymous spokesperson added:
The Governor made the wrong statement in making his case for why weapons of war should not be on our streets or in our classrooms. The Governor has dealt with weapons of war and, unlike Donald Trump and J.D. Vance, who prioritize the gun lobby over children, he strongly believes that only military personnel trained to carry these lethal weapons should have access to them.
Harris struggled to respond when asked about the defamation allegations against her running mate on Thursday at her first rally since entering the presidential race.
“I applaud anybody who steps up to serve our country, and I think we all should,” Harris said carefully.
The Trump campaign continues to criticize both Harris and Waltz for shunning the media, avoiding questions about Waltz’s controversies and Harris’ own background, and preferring to use anonymous spokespeople to answer limited media questions.
“Why won’t Tim Walz talk about his lies? Why does he need to send in a junior spokesman to clean up his name?” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Chang said in an email to NBC.
Friday marks the latest damage control as the Harris campaign tries to clear up past claims about Walz’s military service.
The campaign launched on Thursday on its official website biography Waltz asked that the description of him as a “retired command sergeant” be removed and instead that it be noted that he once served at the rank of command sergeant major. Politico Reported.
Breitbart’s Christina Wong reports:[Walz] He claims to be a retired Master Sergeant, but was demoted to Sergeant Major because he did not meet the requirements to be retired as a Master Sergeant. Nevertheless, he has bragged on multiple occasions about being retired as a Master Sergeant.”
Waltz’s official campaign resume now states that he has been “promoted to Master Sergeant,” but makes no mention of the rank he was demoted before retiring.
And as Wong reported Thursday, “veterans who served with Waltz accuse him of abandoning them as he was preparing to deploy to Iraq at the peak of the war, even though he was the unit’s top non-commissioned officer.”
Veterans who served with Waltz said they knew he would have deployed with his unit to Iraq if he hadn’t been discharged.
The coffin meets the final nail
CSM Julin, commander of Senior Command, Waltz, said Waltz was aware of the planned deployment in the fall of 2004.
Waltz told him in February 2005 that he would be deploying with them.
Otherwise, they would have replaced him so someone else could make the team.

In March 2005, after Waltz announced his candidacy for Congress, his campaign issued a press release that read, in part, “As Master Sergeant, I am responsible not only for preparing the battalion for Iraq, but also for deploying if called upon. Whether in Washington, DC or Iraq, I will serve my country to the best of my ability.”
Despite this statement, Waltz retired two months later.
