IDF Closing in on Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are reportedly hunting down Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in the Gaza Strip as he has nowhere to hide and other senior members of the terrorist organization are eliminated.

of Jerusalem Post Reported Friday:

Sinwar is almost alone at the top of Hamas, as the group’s top military officials and close friends – Mohammed Deif, Rafa’a Salama, Ahmed Ghandour, Ra’ad Saad and Ayman Nofal – have been removed or are missing.

The IDF estimates that the entire operating base in Sinwar has been wiped out, making it especially difficult to move to hiding places above ground.

Sources say Shinwal’s sphere of activity, like that of other senior members of the organisation, is becoming increasingly limited.

Sinwar became Hamas’ leader after Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran, Iran, last week.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces said on Friday they had killed Hamas commander Samer Mahmoud al-Haj in Lebanon.

Hamas is based in the Gaza Strip but also has operations in the Palestinian region of Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), as well as branches in Lebanon, Iraq and elsewhere.

Removing Hamas’ leaders could put pressure on the group ahead of new talks scheduled for next week on a possible hostage ceasefire deal that Hamas has so far resisted.

Sinwal is believed to be using the hostages as a human shield to surround him and deter Israeli attacks, but if the IDF is nearby he may be willing to trade their freedom for his own life.

he Avoided Israel has held him captive for 10 months, but they are determined to find him, dead or alive.
