NFL star CeeDee Lamb appears to scrub Cowboys references from social media platform amid contract dispute

CeeDee Lamb has shown signs of improvement every year since entering the NFL in 2020. He finished the 2023 season with career highs in receptions, touchdowns and receiving yards.

But the All-Pro wide receiver’s offseason has been dominated by a contract dispute, as he seeks a new long-term deal with the Dallas Cowboys, but the two sides appear to remain at an impasse.

Lamb has been refusing to participate in the first few weeks of training camp and recently appeared to express his dissatisfaction by removing all references to his current team from his social media profiles. As of Saturday morning, “America’s Team” no longer appears in the profile section of Lamb’s X account.

Lamb changed his header image to one of himself and his former Oklahoma teammate, Marquis “Hollywood” Brown, who spent the past two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs in March.

Lamb’s puzzling social media behavior came after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones indicated there was no urgency in coming to a new contract agreement with the wide receiver and his agent.

“No,” Jones responded Thursday, according to The Athletic. “I went to high school, I went to college. I don’t know why I said that, but I’m just saying I don’t have a sense of urgency about getting it done.”

Lamb took notice of Jones’ comments and responded to X on Thursday, writing, “lol.”

The Cowboys drafted Lamb in the first round in 2020. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl each of the past three seasons. He led the NFL in receptions last year with 135.

The 25-year-old finished the 2023 season with 1,749 yards receiving, second-most in the league. Dolphins star Tyreek Hill’s 1,799 yards receiving led the NFL last year.

Lamb is set to make just under $18 million in 2024 under the terms of the final year of his rookie contract.

Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson, who was in the same draft class as Lamb, signed a historic contract extension earlier in the offseason. ESPN reported in June that Jefferson agreed to a four-year, $140 million extension.
