Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands used her famous closing kick to win the gold medal in the women’s marathon at the Paris Olympics on Sunday.
Hassan battled Ethiopia’s Tigest Assefa before outlasting her in the final straight to cross the line in an Olympic record time of 2 hours, 22 minutes and 55 seconds.
Hassan’s sensational gold medal win completed a fantastic run of results at the Games, having also won bronze medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the Stade de France.
Assefa took silver, three seconds behind Hassan, with Kenya’s Helen Obiri taking bronze, 15 seconds behind.
