Three takeaways from the Jets’ 20-17 win over the Commanders on Saturday in the preseason opener:
1. Joe Tippmann was the only Jets starter to appear in Saturday’s preseason game.
This is a sign that the Jets are concerned about his play, despite what they’ve been saying.
Tippmann played in the first two series against the Commanders and didn’t have a bad snap.
It will be interesting to see if the Jets continue to use him in preseason situations where no other starters are available.
2. The Jets believe they have a very strong running back corps and both rookies played well on Saturday.
Braylon Allen had runs of 24 and 16 yards and Isaiah Davis had a 24-yard reception.
The two rookies could be good complements for Breece Hall.
3. The Jets didn’t use any of their defensive starters, but their second unit should have played better against Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

They were separated by an 11-play, 70-yard drive that included a 42-yard pass from Daniels.
High hopes are placed on the Jets’ starting defense, but there are questions about their depth.
