Stephen Curry, playing in his first and only Olympic Games, had the greatest moment of his historic career in the final minutes of the gold medal game. Curry drilled four consecutive 3-pointers to lead the United States to a victory over France, the last of which will go down as one of the greatest shots of his historic career.
The United States defeated France, 98-87, to reach the top of the men’s basketball podium at the 2024 Paris Olympics. With under three minutes left in the game, France had cut the U.S. lead to just three points, but then Curry gave it his all to secure another gold medal for the U.S.
Curry’s incredible long-distance shot stunned the rabid home crowd in Paris, and the French announcers couldn’t believe what they were seeing. Here’s a clip of French TV commentary of Curry’s rampage in the final seconds of the game:
“The Devil Called Curry is Hurtin’ Us” is so good you can feel Steph ripping their hearts out in real time.
Curry’s final shot was an impossible one that should never have gone in. The only appropriate response from the French announcer was translated as, “How is this possible?”
It’s hard to blame France for disliking American basketball. The U.S. also beat France by just one point in the women’s basketball gold medal game, another classic. The U.S. also beat France in the men’s basketball gold medal game at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Curry’s Olympic victory will go down as one of the best moments of his storied career. Not only is he the greatest shooter of all time, he also holds the title of the greatest offensive player in basketball history. The whole world got to see it. It’s a shame the French couldn’t enjoy it as much as we did.
