Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran was heard on a heated microphone yelling anti-gay slurs at onlookers during his team’s 10-2 loss to the Houston Astros on Sunday.
Duran made the remarks while coming up to bat in the sixth inning when a fan yelled at him that he needed a tennis racket. Duran yelled “shut up” and then began yelling expletives.

He apologized in a statement after the match.
“During tonight’s game, I used some really bad language in response to a fan,” Duran said. “I am very sorry about how much I offended and disappointed so many people, and I apologize to the entire Red Sox organization and most importantly the entire LGBTQ community.”
“Our young fans should be able to look up to me as a role model and tonight I simply failed to live up to that responsibility.”
