Time magazine drew backlash on social media on Monday morning after publishing a cover story praising Vice President Kamala Harris.

Time magazine’s latest issue features a glowing piece about the vice president by Charlotte Alter, with a cover headline that reads simply, “Her Moment.” In her piece, Alter writes that “Harris has orchestrated the quickest shift in tone in modern political history,” and asserts that while the 2020 Democratic primary and her time as vice president may not have been the right time for Harris to “showcase her talents,” she “seems right for this moment” as the Democratic presidential nominee.

On July 21, President Biden withdrew from the election and endorsed Harris, making Harris the de facto candidate and subsequently officially winning the nomination. In the process, mainstream media has given Harris overwhelmingly favorable coverage, and many feel that the Time article was a tailwind.

Harris did not agree to be interviewed for the story, but the article quoted a range of aides, advisers and supporters, including Pete Buttigieg, CNN’s Bakari Sellers and gun control activist David Hogg.

“Even if it caught Washington off guard, the tireless fighter of the past two weeks matches the Harris that allies say they’ve known for years,” Alter wrote.

Conservatives and Harris’ critics were quick to ridicule the magazine.

“The way that the US corporate media transformed Kamala Harris overnight from a national embarrassment to a harbinger of change without even pretending to care about what she thinks or believes is powerful evidence of how powerful the science of propaganda is,” journalist Glenn Greenwald wrote in a post on X.

“It’s amazing how journalists worship politicians,” quips author Jim Treacher.

Many denounced the glowing article as “propaganda,” while others mocked Time’s failure to secure an interview with Harris.

TIME magazine published the cover with the caption, “The Reappearance of Kamala Harris.”

Critic Stephen L. Miller wrote, “For a reason, she’s back on the cover for about the eighth time, but here’s the new Time magazine cover. Take a good look.”

Charles C.W. Cook, a senior writer at National Review, responded by asking, “Why did she need to come back? Because she needed to change all her policies?”

“Kamala Harris has been reintroduced more times than a McDonald’s McRib sandwich,” public relations expert Brian Dougherty wrote.

Conservative communications strategist Matt Whitlock added: “She needs no introduction. She’s the vice president of the United States and we know her very well.”

Mark Warner, director at Ascent Strategic, responded: “A reintroduction? @TIME, you all know she was VP for nearly the last 4 years right?”

Alter’s article acknowledged that Harris “may still be the weak link” and noted that she will have to hold the Biden administration accountable for its performance, including on tough issues like the border and the economy.

“Harris has yet to give a substantive interview or explain her policy shifts,” Alter wrote. “She must repair rifts within her party and energize black, Hispanic, Arab American and young immigrant voters.” Away from BidenHer early polling numbers are much better than Biden’s, but she is lagging behind in 2020 support among some of the key demographic groups she needs to win.”
