Former President Donald Trump and tech mogul Elon Musk will be doing a live, unscripted interview on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, August 12th at 8pm ET. Here’s how to access Twitter’s “Spaces” feature:
Former US President Donald Trump will be interviewed tonight by Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and CEO of Tesla, owner of SpaceX. The interview, announced by Musk through Tesla on Sunday, comes in the midst of Trump’s reelection campaign against Vice President Kamala Harris and his recently announced running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Watts. Trump, who chose Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate in July, previously teased the interview on his social media platform, Truth Social.

The live interview will be streamed on Trump’s X account @realDonaldTrump’s “Spaces” audio feature. The interview will cover a wide range of topics without restrictions. Musk did not provide specific details about the topics that will be discussed in his announcement. However, he invited questions and comments from the public, suggesting an open and interactive approach to the event.
This isn’t the first time a major politician has used X for a live event this election cycle: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis launched a short-lived presidential campaign on the platform last year, but an event featuring DeSantis, Musk and moderator David Sachs was marred by technical issues that lasted more than 20 minutes before the governor was able to speak and participate in a Q&A.
To avoid similar technical issues, Musk said he would run scaling tests on the system before interviewing Trump.The high-profile exchange comes as the tech mogul decided to reinstate Trump’s previously banned accounts in 2022. Despite the reinstatement of his X account, the former president has primarily shared news and updates on his own platform, Truth Social.
So far, there has been no mention of Musk’s plans to interview Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on the X platform.
To listen to the interview live, follow these steps:
1) Sign up for X/Twitter
You will need an X account to participate in interviews on the platform’s “Spaces” feature. If you don’t have a Twitter account, you can register for one on your desktop computer or download the app on your phone and follow the instructions.
2) Follow the right accounts
You should follow Donald Trump Donald TrumpIf you have an existing Twitter account, double-check your follows: Trump hasn’t been actively using the platform for a while. If you’re experiencing technical issues, you might also consider following Elon Musk.
3) Join the space by visiting Trump’s account at 8pm Eastern/5pm Pacific.
Visit Trump’s account at the time the Space is scheduled to start. Look for a purple Space icon around the account’s profile picture. If you follow Donald Trump, you’ll also see a notification at the top of your News Feed indicating the active Space.

4) Click on the icon to join the space
Clicking on the icon will take you to the X space where you will see many account icons of other participants. Now you are ready to listen to the interview.
