Public Support for Trump Ahead of Midterms
A recent poll by McLaughlin & Associates, commissioned by Tea Party Patriots Citizen Action, indicates that many Americans back President Donald Trump’s policies as the midterm elections approach.
This survey, initially reported by Breitbart News, highlights significant approval for Trump’s policies, countering mainstream media narratives that portray division within his supporter base.
For instance, while some in the media and among Democrats criticize Trump for advocating the addition of a secure banquet hall at the White House, 59 percent of those surveyed believe Congress should fund it.
Jenny Beth Martin, president of Tea Party Patriots Action, remarked that Trump is in a “politically strong position” regarding security measures, alluding to a recent shooting incident near the White House and emphasizing that the investigation began before this event.
The poll also inquired about the SAVE America Act, which emphasizes the need for proof of citizenship and photo ID when voting. An impressive 56% of respondents think U.S. senators should push for more legislation before the midterms. Additionally, 82% are in favor of allowing only American citizens to vote for federal officeholders, a sentiment strongly endorsed by Trump and his supporters. Furthermore, about 58% agree that birthright citizenship should be limited to children of U.S. citizens or lawful residents.
Nearly three-quarters of respondents believe that “legal immigrants who choose to make America their home should learn English, embrace American traditions and values, and become part of this country,” a viewpoint that aligns with Trump’s beliefs.
Other notable polling results reveal that 81% prioritize tackling waste, fraud, and corruption, 83% feel Congress needs a system to preemptively detect fraud, and 70% think reducing government fraud is a direct route to lowering costs.
Martin observed that the strong demand for action against government fraud indicates Trump’s political insight is still sharp, mentioning his recent decision to appoint Vice President J.D. Vance to lead an anti-fraud task force.
“The public wants concrete steps against fraud. They believe Congress ought to enforce systems to catch fraud before spending taxpayer money. There’s a strong desire to prioritize tackling waste, fraud, and corruption as a means to lower expenses,” she explained.
The survey also shows robust support, at 71%, for preventing Iran from blocking or seizing ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
“President Trump’s extensive political and legislative agenda garners strong backing from most voters,” said Martin. “Whether it concerns upgrading White House security, curbing government fraud to reduce prices, thwarting Iranian influences in the Strait of Hormuz, reconsidering birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants, or enacting the SAVE America Act, Trump’s initiatives are well-received.”
Leading up to the midterms, the survey revealed that economic factors like inflation, the cost of living, and job stability are among the top concerns for respondents.
The poll was conducted from May 12 to 18 among 1,000 general election voters, with a margin of error of +/- 3.1%. This occurs as Trump dismisses claims of division among his supporters regarding his agenda.
In a recent response to a question from Breitbart News, Trump stated, “I think it’s the most powerful movement we’ve ever seen.” He referenced a recent incident in Louisiana, calling out a senator for disloyalty to the Republican Party and suggesting he’s not a candidate anymore. “I don’t think MAGA has ever been more united,” he added.
