Fans are now looking forward to the 2028 tournament.
Actor Tom Cruise jumped off the roof of the Stade de France in a planned stunt to kick off the “handover” from Paris to Los Angeles. Cruise jumped from the roof while R&B star Herr sang the national anthem on electric guitar.
Once safely back on land, Cruz was presented with the Olympic flag by gymnast Simone Biles and California Mayor Karen Bass (Democrat) before sitting on the back of a waiting motorcycle.
The flag was passed between several U.S. Olympians before arriving in Venice Beach, California, where rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers performed their hit song “Can’t Stop.”
The band then handed the baton over to Billie Eilish, who performed a sweet rendition of her new song, “Birds of a Feather.”
Rapper Snoop Dogg then took to the beach to perform his classic song “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” before taking to the stage with fellow LA rapper Dr. Dre.
“Can’t wait to see what the US opening and closing ceremonies will be like. Absolutely nothing avant-garde. The world better be prepared for cowboys, guns, Budweiser and lots of Stars and Stripes,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“So America, that Tom Cruise had to jump from the stadium ceiling to the electric guitar riff during the Olympics closing ceremony,” added another online user.
“The Tom Cruise Olympic flag scene was exactly what America needed – to let the world know how arrogant, arrogant and annoying we’re going to be in four years.”
