Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) said on MSNBC’s “Inside” on Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris could win Texas in November.
“Let me ask you, you’ve seen a lot of candidates run for president, and Vice President Harris and Tim Walz have obviously created a lot of excitement. Do you think that’s enough? Is Texas a pipe dream or should people be hopeful about Texas in 2024, or is it going to take a little bit longer?” host Jen Psaki asked.
“You can see Democrats smiling. There is joy in the party. There is electricity in the system,” O’Rourke said. “Certainly, places that I thought were overlooked are now at stake. Three of the most competitive House races are in Texas, including Michelle Vallejo in Texas’ 15th District. If we win those, we could take control of the House. The biggest chance for Senate Democrats to win is also in Texas – Collin Allred vs. Ted Cruz. I think Harris-Waltz have improved our chances of winning those races. Joe Biden only lost Texas by 5.5 points in 2020. Texas is moving more Democratic than any other battleground state. Anything can happen this year, and with the energy these two are putting into this slate, I think Texas could be at stake.”
