REDWOOD COUNTY, Minn. — Rural Minnesota residents are frustrated with Democratic Gov. Tim Walz’s policies, which they say have harmed residents for years.
Following the Minnesota governor’s nomination as Vice President Harris’ 2024 running mate, Minnesotans attending FarmFest, a local agricultural trade fair, shared their thoughts on Walz as their state’s leader in an interview with Fox News Digital.
Matthew A., a Minnesota resident whose family grows corn and soybeans, said Governor Walz has “done very little to help rural Minnesota.”
“We joke that we’re a mini-California. Most of us would like to annex to South Dakota if we could. He’s put policies in place that are hurting small businesses. I have friends who have lost small businesses because of his policies. It’s killing our small towns, our rural development,” Matthew A. told Fox News Digital.

“He made it very clear that we were nothing but stones and cattle, yet he did very little to help us. And honestly, a man who will just sit back and watch the city burn like he did in 2020 and do nothing has no integrity. And he … does not deserve any vote.”
Minnesota salesman Dan Fedders described the Harris-Waltz combination as “very liberal.”

“I think they make a great team, God bless them, but they have no chance of winning,” Fedders said of Walz and Harris. “He’s just as liberal as she is, in my opinion. And I think most people in Minnesota are happy that he’s going to step down or at least be out of office for a while.”

“I think Governor Walz has been a disaster for the state of Minnesota,” a local resident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Fox.
“He doesn’t have time for rural America anymore. Now, as a future leader, I think he’s pretty contemptuous of his opponents in the way he deals with them. Maybe that’s the way the game is played, but I don’t want our leaders to act like that. It’s not good for Minnesota,” he said, adding that he thinks Walz’s “fiscal responsibility to the people of Minnesota has been very poor.”

“He’s been a bad influence on the state. There’s no other way to put it,” said a local restaurant owner and farmer who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “He’s done more harm than good to the state.”
Farm Fest is said to be the largest gathering of farmers and agricultural workers in Walz’s home state, as his administration has drawn national attention for policies aimed at investing in sustainability and biofuels, topics that are generally unpopular in Republican-leaning states and farming.
Walz has represented the state as governor since 2019.
