Elon Musk joined President Trump at Space on X just hours after the president’s @realDonaldTrump account made its long-awaited return. The livestream, which Musk described as a “conversation” rather than an interview, peaked at nearly 1.3 million listeners and lasted just over two hours.

The delay came after Musk said it was “what appeared to be a massive DDOS attack on X.” DDOS stands for “distributed denial of service,” and occurs when cyber attackers flood a website with fake web traffic, disrupting its servers. Musk’s team was able to fix the issue and start the livestream with a delay of about 40 minutes.
The wide-ranging conversation began with Musk asking about the July assassination attempt, which Trump detailed and announced his intention to hold a follow-up rally in Butler, Pennsylvania in October. They also dug deeper into illegal immigration, Trump’s dealings with foreign leaders and energy policy. Trump praised Musk’s Tesla electric cars and said he would be “very happy” if Musk joined a hypothetical “Government Efficiency Commission” if Trump is re-elected in November.
They also criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and the mainstream media’s limited efforts to give her critical interviews. Musk went on to describe Harris’ actions as “far-left” and argued that “we’re seeing an overnight propaganda attempt to rewrite history and make Kamala appear to be a moderate when in fact she is not.”
Musk publicly endorsed President Trump on July 13.NumberThis came shortly after an assassination attempt had taken place earlier in the day.
According to a post from X’s official account, “Between 7:47pm ET and 10:47pm ET, President Donald Trump’s space-related posts were viewed 73 million times. During the same time period, there were 4 million posts about Elon Musk and President Trump’s conversation on 𝕏, generating a total of 998 million views.”
A photo posted to X by Margo Martin, deputy communications director for the Trump campaign, shows President Trump leaning over a table at Mar-a-Lago, speaking into an iPhone logged into Spaces.
Musk has offered Harris the opportunity to appear with him on X-Space, though Harris’ campaign has yet to accept Musk’s invitation.
