Fewer Americans want companies to speak out on public policy: Survey

A new Gallup poll finds that just four in 10 Americans want corporations to have a say in public policy.

a Recent Bentley University and Gallup According to a new Gallup article, polls have found that 38 percent of Americans “believe that companies generally should take public positions on current events.”

In recent years, there has been increased discussion around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts in American institutions, including universities, government agencies, and corporations. DEI efforts typically aim to promote equity and fairness in institutions, especially when it comes to issues of racism, homophobia, and sexism.

According to a Gallup article, the number of Americans who support companies taking “public positions on current events” has dropped dramatically: Just two years ago, that figure was about 48 percent, compared to 41 percent a year ago.

Vice President Harris has come under fire recently for her association with DEI programs as the Democratic presidential nominee. If elected in November, she would be the first Black woman, first female and first South Asian-American president.

The Gallup/Bentley poll was conducted April 29 to May 6 and included 5,835 people. The margin of error was 2.1 percentage points at the 95% confidence level when response rates were closer to 50%, and plus or minus 1.3 percentage points when response rates were closer to 10% and 90%.
