According to reports, Hunter Biden, when his father was vice president, asked the U.S. Embassy in Rome for help in closing a lucrative business deal on behalf of a Ukrainian energy company.
Hunter’s big demands and his apparent attempts to use his father’s power to secure a deal with Burusima, a Ukrainian gas company where he served on the board, only came to light after State Department records were released to Congress. The New York Times Joe Biden last month decided not to seek reelection in 2024.
“We want to be careful not to promise too much,” a Commerce Department official at the U.S. Embassy in Italy wrote in response to Hunter’s letter, the contents of which have not been made public.
