NYPD chief blasts NYC’s sanctuary status after illegal migrant charged in knifepoint rape of woman

New York City police officials criticized the Big Apple’s sanctuary city status after an illegal immigrant allegedly raped a woman at knifepoint on Sunday.

New York Police Sergeant John Chell spoke out about immigrant crime following an incident in which Nicaraguan suspect Daniel Davon Bonilla, 24, and an accomplice are alleged to have grabbed a 46-year-old woman and raped her at knifepoint.

Chell argued that immigrants like Davon Bonilla don’t come to the United States in search of a better life, but to prey on city dwellers.

“People from all over the world come to New York in search of a better life — the American Dream.” Posted by Chell on X “However, a small number have other motives, including committing crimes and preying on the people of New York City. Daniel Davon Bonilla is one of those predators.”

Davon Bonilla was released from prison less than two months after sexually assaulting another woman, Chell said.

After his release, he was allowed to roam the streets of New York.

“When will our sanctuary city laws be amended to allow federal authorities to be notified about the deportation of aliens convicted of violent crimes?” Chell asked. “Without action, individuals like Daniel Davon Bonilla will continue to victimize the women of our city.”

New York mayor slammed by immigration activists for ‘racist’ claim that immigrants are ‘good swimmers’

“He was arrested in April 2023 for sexually assaulting a woman in Brooklyn,” Chell said. “The criminal justice system played its role, he was convicted, sentenced and released in June 2024. However, after his release, he returned to the city and assaulted another woman in Coney Island last Sunday.”

“Let’s do everything we can to keep our city safe.”

New York’s sanctuary city law prohibits city agencies from partnering with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on federal immigration matters.

ICE and the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
