Rep. Michelle Fischbach defeated Steve Boyd in the Republican primary for Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District on Tuesday, advancing to the general election to face Democratic challenger A. John Peters.
Fischbach, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump and the Republican standard-bearer, has a strong conservative record in the heavily Republican Minnesota district, despite being challenged by Boyd, a small business owner.

Fischbach served as a state senator for more than two decades and as lieutenant governor before winning the 2020 congressional election in which he led the Republican race in the 7th Congressional District, defeating Representative Collin Peterson, a Democrat who had served in the position for 30 years.
Boyd, who is outfunded by Fischbach, has voiced support for the Jan. 6 rioters and hosted a campaign event where some Minnesotans facing federal charges could tell their side of the story.
Boyd also criticized Fischbach for being too focused on drafting legislation and argued that he would take a more conservative stance on cultural issues. Star Tribune Reported.
Trump also reportedly said he would be willing to shut down the government to restrict border crossings and would even join the House Freedom Caucus, a coalition of hardline conservatives in Congress.
