Social Media Influencers Confirmed He told CBS News that left-wing groups can pay influencers up to $10,000 a month or more to produce liberal propaganda.
Awa Sanneh, a TikTok beauty influencer, told CBS she was recruited by the left-wing group after visiting the White House and posting about it on her account.
“We need to work with them, or we’re missing out on a huge way for voters to get information about the world.”
Sanneh wouldn’t disclose how much she was paid, but told CBS that creators with the same social media following as her were paid tens of thousands of dollars.
“On average, a video for a creator my size can go for anywhere from $3,000 to $10,000 or more,” she says.
Robert Flaherty, who is in charge of digital strategizing for the Kamala Harris campaign, said the campaign has reached out to thousands of influencers.
“We provide them with topics, resources, basic language, graphics, etc. that they can reuse and steal,” he explained.
“We need to work with our constituents, or we’re missing out on a huge way that our constituents can get information about the world,” Flaherty added.
He also said that while political campaigns don’t pay influencers directly, CBS has found a number of political groups that do.
Sanneh has disclosed if she is being paid to post politically, but the Federal Election Commission voted in December that influencers do not have to disclose that information about political messaging.
She has been invited to the Democratic National Convention and plans to attend.
“They just said if we wanted to do our own show, they would give us all the resources to do it,” she added.
The report noted that Turning Point USA has recruited right-wing influencers for years.
CBS published an interview with Sanne. On YouTube.
