Stephen A. Smith hopes Trump loses, fears 'vengeance tour'

ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith said he hopes former President Trump won’t return to the White House in November.

“I don’t want Donald Trump to win this election,” Smith said on a podcast Wednesday, picked up by Media It. “The reason is because he doesn’t know how to operate. I’m afraid he’ll go on a quest for revenge. I think he’s someone who is focused on electing people who are loyal to him, not who’s best for America.”

In January, Smith criticized Democrats for supporting President Biden as a symbol against President Trump.

Biden announced at the end of last month that he was dropping out of the presidential race, citing concerns about his age, mental health and ability to regain the presidency following his poor performance in the presidential debates. He subsequently endorsed Vice President Harris, who is now the leading Democratic presidential candidate.

“And essentially, I think he puts us at risk because he’s such a narcissist,” Smith said of Trump. “That’s all that matters to me.”

“But that doesn’t mean we should condone the vice president of the United States,” Smith continued. “Because she’s the vice president. I’m voting for her. I’m rooting for her. And I’m not criticizing her strategy so far.”

But Smith questioned Harris’ recent lack of engagement with the media.

“What are you doing avoiding interviews,” Smith said. “Using pep rallies as press conferences? Or one-on-one meetings?”

Harris said last week that she hopes to do an extended interview before August is over.

“I’ve spoken with the team and hope to schedule an interview by the end of this month,” Harris said.

Hill has reached out to the Trump and Harris campaigns.
