The son of Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer Doug Clifford has been accused of murdering his girlfriend, whose body was found on the side of a Nevada highway this week, according to police and media reports.
Brent Clifford, who is facing murder charges in the discovery Thursday of a body believed to be that of 48-year-old Patricia Portela Wright on Mount Rose Highway in Washoe County, Nevada, is also a suspect in a murder in Reno, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said.
“Clearly foul play is involved,” Placer County Sergeant David Smith said Thursday in relation to Portela Wright’s case, adding that investigators have “worked tirelessly over the past week to provide closure for Patricia’s family and to locate Patricia’s remains.”
TMZ, citing public records, reports that Clifford is one of three children of Doug Clifford, drummer for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Creedence Clearwater Revival.

According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, Portela Wright, of Kings Beach, California, was last seen the morning of Sunday, August 4, before being reported missing last Friday.
“Through the investigation, we received information that led us to the area of Mount Rose Highway and, using a drone, we were able to locate the female’s body at the bottom of a steep embankment,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook Thursday.
“During the investigation, her boyfriend, Brent Clifford, was identified as a suspect in her disappearance. On Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, Clifford was arrested in Portola. [California]”He was booked into the Placer County Jail on a murder charge,” he added.
The motive for the killing remains unclear.

As of Friday morning, Clifford, 55, was being held without bail, according to jail records.
“According to the Reno Police Department, Clifford is a suspect in a Reno homicide case in which the male victim was found on the morning of Sunday, August 11th,” the Placer County Sheriff’s Office also announced. “The red 2003 Chevrolet Blazer owned by the homicide victim was found in the same location in Portola where Clifford was arrested.”
Patricia Portela Wright’s body was discovered Thursday off the side of Mount Rose Highway in Washoe County, Nevada.

Investigators say they are waiting for the Washoe County Coroner’s Office to identify the body.
