Beijing is weaponizing tourism to the Pacific island of Palau over its loyalty to Taiwan and accusations that China was behind a major cyber attack on the country, President Srangell Whipps Jr. told The Associated Press. Palau is one of three Pacific nations, along with Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands, to recognise Taiwan as an independent democracy – a move seen as an affront by Beijing, which claims Taiwan is part of China.
