Former NBC sports reporter Michelle Tafoya slammed ESPN’s Mina Kimes for praising Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ testosterone-free “masculinity.”
Last week, Kimes heaped praise on Walz, arguing that it’s “important” that someone like Minnesota’s Democratic governor is seen as “a model for a different kind of masculinity.”
“Sure, they call him ‘coach’ and stuff, but at the same time they make the point that, ‘This guy also ran a gay-straight alliance at his high school the year he was football coach,'” the left-leaning Kimes argued, according to Awful Announcing. “That’s a very powerful way of going beyond the politics and electoral possibilities that we’re talking about. There are very few models like that in American public life.”

“For me, it’s really important to see someone like this embody a different kind of masculinity. In the NFL, you see it with the Kelsey brothers and Dan Campbell. The idea of ’big, tough football player’… pic.twitter.com/mptlzRsOYW

A fact check by Kimes reveals that Waltz was never a head coach. He was an assistant coach at a Minnesota high school in 1995, but was forced to resign after being convicted of drunk driving. He then served as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at a Minnesota high school in 1999. He never actually coached a team.
Still, Tafoya found Kims’ schoolgirl behavior embarrassing.
“I am truly ashamed of @minakimes. How pathetic that her kind of ‘manliness’ is considered more important than a candidate’s terrible track record. From the people of Minnesota,” Tafoya wrote in a post to X on Thursday.

Of course, Tafoya isn’t on an equal footing in the debate: In 2022, she campaigned for Walz’s Republican opponent, Kendall Qualls, who lost his bid to unseat Walz, who began his second term in office after the election.
After Tafoya’s criticism, Kimes fired back with a meme featuring left-wing NBA star LeBron James.
