CNN anchor Abby Phillips expressed skepticism Thursday about one of Vice President Kamala Harris’ first economic policy proposals.
During the show, the presenter read out criticism from commentators that the price controls proposals were designed to pander to “economically illiterate” voters, and seemed to agree that they were an easy way to get votes from people who don’t understand how the economy works.

Introducing the topic, Philip said, “One of the things we’ve learned about the policies that she’s going to implement is that she supports a ban on price gouging, a ban on that. Now, I think any reasonable person would ask, what does that mean, what does that actually mean, and how is the government going to be involved in that?”
She then read a critique of the proposal by National Review author Noah Rothman and made her point.
“He called the policy ‘a total pandering to economic illiterates, of whom there are many in Congress, who understand that allowing the executive branch to functionally set prices is a foolish idea that will only hurt consumers in the long run.'”
Donald Trump criticized Kamala Harris’ economic policies in multiple posts on Truth Social.
“If you think prices are high now, they will be 100 times higher after 4 years of Kamala’s presidency. Under her plan, Kamala will implement Soviet-style price controls,” Trump tweeted.
In another post, he added: “She is bringing Venezuela’s dangerous economic policies to our country. If Kamala is elected and implements communist price cap policies, we will see hunger, starvation and poverty like we’ve never seen before. America will never recover!”
