CNN’s Michael Smerconish warned Saturday that Vice President Kamala Harris will ultimately have to be held accountable for her performance and policy changes during the presidential campaign.
Harris has not given any interviews or released a policy platform. Campaign website As of August 17, nearly four weeks into her presidential bid, Smerconish said Harris has avoided interviews because she wants more time to explain why she has “reversed” her policy since starting her campaign, but that she will eventually be “held accountable.” (RELATED: Harris once bragged about working “behind the scenes” to get transgender inmates sex-reassignment surgery)
clock:
“Kamala Harris is not immortal. She has served as a low-profile, largely unremarkable vice president, and there appear to be no accomplishments she can cite regarding her most important responsibility: addressing the causes of the border crisis,” Smerconish said.
“So far, Harris has been a free ride. She hasn’t given any media interviews or responded to voter questions. When asked recently, she said she would be available for interviews by the end of the month; she said it on Aug. 8. No doubt she wants more time to prepare answers as to why she has changed course on health care, fracking, marijuana and the death penalty, to name just a few,” he added. “Sooner or later, she will be held accountable and face the pressures she has largely avoided thus far.”
Pollster Frank Luntz said Friday that voters in his focus groups have “real concerns” about Harris being politically “extreme.” The vice president supported many left-wing policies during the 2020 presidential campaign but has shifted some positions since launching her 2024 campaign.
Smerconish also spoke out against Harris’ Friday speech Her economic plan has been met with mixed reviews, with some saying it could result in higher costs for Americans.
“In the middle of the Democratic National Convention, you’d think she’d get another week of favorable press. [Democratic National Committee]”You have three Democratic presidents in Chicago, but with sentiment against Israel and Gaza flaring, there’s an atmosphere of uncertainty about what’s going to happen in Chicago,” he added.
Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, also has a far-left record on immigration and transgender policy. He has faced criticism for alleged “defamation” and for portraying his 1995 arrest in Nebraska during his 2006 congressional campaign.
According to court records, the Walz campaign in 2006 “repeatedly falsely stated” that Walz had not been drinking the night he was arrested for driving 96 mph in a 55 mph speed limit, CNN reported. Reported.
“I thought the DUI issue was a really big, serious issue, and I know Republicans have spent a lot of time talking about the defamation allegations,” Smerconish said Friday, throwing his hands up in air quotes. “My opinion, having looked at the facts, is worthless, but I don’t see the problem there. Walz was being sloppy and shouldn’t have portrayed the role he held as if it was full-time when it wasn’t. But the DUI story is inexcusable.”
Jonathan Martin, senior political columnist at Politico, said Friday that Harris “is going to run and get the presidency.”[ning] She demonstrated her “all-out” stance by not revealing policy details during the campaign and hoping the media would focus on former President Donald Trump.
