A New York couple who made headlines after charging guests hundreds of dollars for their wedding have been posting about their unconventional nuptials on social media.
The newlyweds listed “non-traditional things they did at their wedding” on TikTok, Yesterday’s 7thexplains, “Our wedding guests started their wedding day with a sound meditation.”
Nova and Reemo Stiles of the Bronx; Who got married? Their plans to marry at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in June 2023, followed by a reception at One World Trade Center, sparked controversy after it was revealed that they had asked guests to each donate money to celebrate.
Their TikTok account, @thestylesfamilia, has had seven posts about their wedding, starting with the one in May asking, “Did the tickets to our wedding actually sell!?”
Other aspects of the wedding they emphasized were having guests wear denim, closing down Fifth Avenue for the first dance, and having the bridal party wear custom, colorful outfits.
Last month, the couple told The Washington Post that they decided to charge guests a fee after realizing it would cost at least $150,000 to hold a wedding in New York.
350 people were invited to the 12-hour party, of which 60 attended, raising $70,000, which they plan to use to one day start a family.
Some TikTok users have called the pair “intelligent,” while others have criticized their frugal tactics.
“What a joke! These people are stingy! I want jewelry but I don’t have enough money. I’m going to get my friends to pay for my wedding! I want to cut off all friendships with people who do this,” she said. Penny Murdaugh.
The couple responded to the comment, “Thanks for your guess Penny! That’s ridiculous that 60 tickets would cover the cost of a 12 hour wedding!! Absolutely not and we paid for our entire wedding out of our own pocket!!”
