Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy will run in Arizona, the Arizona Secretary of State’s office confirmed to The Hill on Wednesday.
“The Kennedy campaign has been informed that they have conditionally accepted 118,752 petition signatures and their electors will appear on the ballot,” JP Martin, deputy director of communications for the Arizona Secretary of State’s office, said in an email to The Hill. 42,303 were needed to qualify.
The Arizona news coincided with a report by The Hill that Kennedy campaign officials were meeting by phone on Wednesday to discuss developing the campaign. According to ABC News:Kennedy may drop out of the race by the end of the week and is considering endorsing former President Trump.
Kennedy also announced on Wednesday that he will address the nation on Friday about his political future. According to a press release from his campaign, the speech will center around “our current historical moment and the path forward” and will take place in Phoenix at 2 p.m. EDT.
The former president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., said Wednesday he was in favor of allowing Kennedy to “blow up” as a member of the government agency.
“I liked the idea. I liked the idea of giving him some kind of role with some big three-letter organization or something and letting him blow it up,” Trump Jr. said on “The Glenn Beck Program.”
“I think that’s what we need, and even though we may disagree on certain things, I think that kind of unity would be a really great asset to him.”
The Hill reached out to the Kennedy campaign.
