USA flag football quarterback claims he’s ‘better than Patrick Mahomes’

Patrick Mahomes threw a flag on that play.

Early Wednesday morning, flag football quarterback Darrell Doucette told TMZ that not only would he be a perfect fit for the U.S. flag football team at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, but he’d be a better playmaker than the Chiefs’ star.

“At the end of the day, I feel like I’m better than Patrick Mahomes because of my game IQ,” he told the outlet. “Right now, I know he’s the best player. [NFL]”I know he’s more accurate and I know he has all the intangible qualities, but when it comes to flag football, I feel like I know more than he does.”

Mahomes appeared on X later in the day and cited a portion of Doucette’s video with a GIF of rapper 50 Cent, saying, “I’m like, he f**k me.”

Last November, Mahomes expressed interest in playing for the U.S. team at the Olympic Games in the United States four years from now.

“Of course I would, but I’ve seen some guys that play flag football and they’re a little bit faster than me,” he told reporters at the time. “I know the linemen aren’t going to block for me. I’m going to be 31, 32 years old.

“So, if I’m still able to move, I’ll go and throw some ball in LA.”

As quarterback for the U.S. National Flag Football Team, Doucette has helped the team win numerous titles, including the 2021 IFAF Men’s Flag Football World Championship, the 2022 World Games and the 2023 Americas Flag Football Championship.

In the latter tournament, he was named MVP.

Doucette later added to TMZ that he wasn’t trying to make the case that he’s an all-around better football player than the two-time All-Pro, especially in the flag version of the game where the field is smaller.

“I’m not saying I’m the better player overall, but until he steps on a flag field at 5-on-5, I’m going to feel that way until it’s proven! I’m a competitor and I have to be proven wrong,” he told the media. “It’s a whole different game.”

Doucette has been in the news lately. He told the Guardian over the weekend that it’s not easy for NFL players who want to play for an Olympic team.

“You don’t expect them to go on the field and make the Olympic team because of their name,” Doucette said. “They still have to go on the field and compete.”
