‘I’m not familiar with that’

Social media users slammed President Biden’s Commerce Secretary, Gina Raimondo, for admitting to ABC News on Wednesday that she “was not aware” of a significant revision to that day’s jobs report.

ABC News correspondent Kayna Whitworth asked Raymond what he thought about the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ revisions to the jobs numbers.

“I’d like to know what you think about the Labor Department announcing today that more than 800,000 fewer jobs were actually created than originally reported,” Whitworth said.

Reporters played footage of former President Trump speaking about the report at a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday. “The administration inflated a number of 818,000 extra jobs that didn’t exist — that is, they said they existed, but they didn’t. The administration inflated the numbers so they could say they were doing a great job,” Trump said.

Raimondo appeared to deny the news. She criticized President Trump for spreading misinformation and, when asked whether the changes would be harmful to Democratic presidential nominee and Vice President Harris, replied “no.”

“No. First of all, I don’t believe it, because I’ve never heard Donald Trump tell the truth,” Raimondo said.

“That’s from the Department of Labor,” Whitworth replied.

Even though the report had been released hours earlier, Raimondo said, “I don’t know much about it.”

Raimondo has begun to touting her optimism about Harris’ “pro-business” economic vision, while the presidential candidate has come under fire in recent days for proposals that critics, including on the left, describe as government price controls on businesses.

Social media users were incredulous that one of the government’s top economic officials was unaware of the news of the jobs report.

“This is the secretary of commerce,” said Charles Cook, a senior writer at National Review.

Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich wrote, “There’s only so much you can fake or hide before things come crashing down: Biden’s decline, the accounting fraud of the economy, the redefinition of ‘recession’.”

“My God, we’re being governed by idiots,” declared conservative commentator Ned Ryun.

“This is the Secretary of Commerce by the way,” wrote Libs of TikTok creator Chaya Raiczyk.

“They think you’re stupid,” comedian Tim Young said.
