NBA superstar Stephen Curry may have taken a big step toward launching his career within the Democratic Party.
Curry endorsed Kamala Harris for president in a recorded message at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday.
Curry’s endorsement of Harris is his latest political statement after taking a neutral stance on abortion and previously claiming the moon landings were a hoax, then retracting those statements at the behest of President Barack Obama.

“I believe that if Kamala becomes president, she will restore unity and continue to move the country forward,” Curry said.

In the video, Curry, wearing his Olympic gold medal from Paris, referenced the vice president’s meeting with the U.S. men’s basketball team before a game at the Paris Olympics and his meeting with Vice President Harris during his visit to the White House after the Golden State Warriors won the 2022 NBA Finals.

Curry’s endorsement came three days after Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr gave a surprise speech at the convention on Monday, during which he referenced Curry’s signature “good night” celebration and joked that Democrats would use it to mock Trump if Harris wins in November.
Curry previously supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election and Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Thursday’s endorsement comes just five months after Curry indicated he wanted to pursue a political career and eventually run for president.
In an interview CBS Morning On March 12, when asked about his interest in politics, Curry did not rule out the possibility of running for president.
“I want to use all my influence for good,” Curry said, “so if there’s a way I can do that, I might do it.”
Warriors’ Steve Kerr makes bold prediction at DNC, says he wants to say ‘goodnight, goodnight’ to Donald Trump like Stephen Curry
In September 2022, Curry spoke about his political beliefs in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.
“I have beliefs that not everyone shares,” Curry said, “but as long as we’re all equal in the sense that we’re afforded all the protections and rights as citizens, there should be a very low bar for everyone to follow.”
Curry, who received his Christian education at Charlotte Christian High School in North Carolina, added that he doesn’t consider himself pro- or anti-abortion and feels no urge to voice opposition to the June 2022 overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Curry claims he has played golf with Barack Obama and that Obama once reprimanded him after spreading conspiracy theories. After he suggested the 1969 moon landing was faked on Vince Carter’s podcast “Winging It” in December 2018, Curry said Obama sent him a stern email and ordered him to publicly retract his comments.
“That night I got an email…a pretty harsh and direct email from President Obama,” Curry told Rolling Stone, adding that Obama said, “We’ve got to do something about this.”
Two days after making the remarks, Curry told ESPN that he had been joking and has since accepted an invitation to partner with NASA.
