New York schoolboy assumed missing playing hooky, found by helicopter and NYPD

A New York City male student may be grounded after he was caught on camera skipping class, a police investigation was launched Friday morning.

FOX 5 New York helicopter captured video of the moment an NYPD officer spotted a 9-year-old boy using a laptop on a Brooklyn rooftop.

A teenager hit an NYPD officer with a stolen car, crashing the vehicle before making a dramatic arrest on a rooftop, according to video.

Every parent’s nightmare became a reality this morning when my 9-year-old son didn’t turn up to school at around 7am and was promptly reported as missing.

FOX 5 New York sent a news helicopter to monitor the scene after the NYPD conducted an emergency search. The search call was for a juvenile wearing a uniform, about 4 feet 9 inches tall.

Helicopter cameras captured footage of the male student sitting in a lawn chair on the rooftop, a laptop on his lap and putting on a tie.

Helicopter reporter Dan Rice first spotted the boy, safe and sound, on the roof of his family’s apartment building.

On this day in history, August 22, 1776, British forces invaded Brooklyn by sea.

“We cover a lot of harrowing stories of missing children and people in despair. We’ve never been involved in a story where we’ve had to search for a missing person and ultimately find them and assist law enforcement,” Rice told FOX 5.

NYPD officers quickly arrived on the scene and received rave reviews from the helicopter as it ferried the child to safety.

“We were able to find them because he was very relaxed and it was great to see him reunited with his parents. It’s just an awesome feeling,” helicopter reporter Dan Rice told FOX 5.
