An employee at the Civic Theater near Seattle has admitted to raping children in the past. KCPQ-TV reported. The lawsuit cites court documents referring to Alan Parsons, chairman of the board of directors, and Bill Hulls, artistic director, of Renton Civic Theatre, which is less than 30 minutes southeast of Seattle.
A whistleblower working within the theater told KCPQ-TV that he reported Hulse’s child sexual abuse allegations to the theater’s board of directors, but his concerns were ignored, so he decided to post the information on Facebook.
“A broken organization”
“Renton Civic Theatre [sic] “This organization is falling apart,” the whistleblower post read. “The artistic director of this organization is a registered sex offender and is harassing women. He has clearly been harassing for years and it has not stopped because many of us have not spoken up.”
KCPQ said in 1990 documents obtained by the station, Fuls, who was 22 at the time, admitted to sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl, the daughter of a family friend. Fuls pleaded guilty and was convicted, the station said. The subsequent sentencing outcome is unknown, but KCPQ added that court documents state Fuls admitted to having explicit sexual fantasies involving children he knew personally. Fuls also admitted to being in close proximity to children while in a theater company, the station said.
The theater’s board of directors included Hulse’s wife as well as Alan Parsons, a convicted child molester reported by KCPQ.
Further information from the station:
According to court documents obtained by FOX 13 Seattle, Parsons admitted to raping the infant over a period of several years, beginning when he was a teenager.
This happened in 2005.
According to the documents, Parsons babysat the girl from the age of 14 to 17. The victim was 2 when the abuse began and 5 when she told her parents.
KCPQ added that archived screenshots of the theater’s website showed the names of Parsons, Hulse and Hulse’s wife on the “About” page, but that all three names have now been removed.
The station also said Renton Civic Theatre declined to comment on the station’s report but released the following statement: “In light of recent events, there are several issues we need to address. First, as of today, Bill Hulse is no longer affiliated with Renton Civic Theatre. There is a lot to sort out, and further decisions will be made in the coming days. We ask for your patience as we work through this matter.”
KCPQ added that it reached out to Hulse, his wife and Parsons for comment but did not hear back.
Additionally, Renton police told the station that no criminal charges have been filed against the theater or its staff, but added that anyone who experiences suspicious activity related to the theater should contact police.
